Towne Party is all about McKenzie Towne Church serving our local community together as the church body.

The two core components of this event are:
– Serving the local community – being the church to those outside our walls and inviting them to connect with us.
– Serving together as a body – building relationships with other members of the body, connecting with areas of passion, and learning what it means to serve together.

The Church is the agent of God’s grace to the world, and the means through which God is bringing about the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. We are called to serve and love those in our community. We introduce them to the gospel story by living it out through our words and actions. A kind word or selfless act of generosity speaks volumes in a world that values looking out for number one above all. We are delighted to be able to be generous to our community and bless them with this fun, free event once a year. In a neighbourhood brimming with young families, it’s great to provide this opportunity for a day of family fun. I also love that this aligns with our values of relationships and evangelism, and promotes a time of experiencing life together as a family.

And speaking of life together as a family… The other major piece of this endeavour is the opportunity for us to serve together as a church family (as well as together with our personal families). The world can be an isolating and alienating place, but we are reminded that we aren’t in it alone. Not only do we have God who goes with us, but we also have a church family to surround us, support us, and love us. In John 13:35 Jesus says, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” It is the way that we hold up each other in prayer, serve each other in times of need, and love each other through turmoil that will distinguish us as God’s people. For this reason, it is important for us to be intentional in building community and building relationships amongst the church body.

One of the most surprising ways that I have found to build these relationships is through serving together, alongside one another. The reason for this, in my experience, has been two-fold. On the one hand, it’s a great opportunity to meet people, and due to being in a service role, one quickly gets past awkwardness and feeling uncomfortable in order to try to do what needs to be done. Secondly, you are accomplishing something together, which creates a bond. And being able to see the willingness of others to help and the incredible impact of all the pieces coming together is encouraging and inspiring. It is so amazing to see God at work in us and through us.

Every year it is exciting and terrifying to try to put on this event, but each morning I pray – re-surrendering it to God and God’s purposes. And God has always come through in the past – blowing our expectations out of the water and allowing us to be part of some of the amazing work God is doing in McKenzie Towne.

We still need lots of help! We’d love to have you be a part of what God is doing through this event. Your contribution matters – we are always better together.
