Our family started attending McKenzie Towne Church last September. We had decided to make the move from the church that we had been at for over 15 years to MTC where our kids could get connected with other youth their age. I decided that after attending MTC for a year, that it was time for me to get involved with the Towne Party. It’s an interesting experience volunteering for an event that I had never been to myself – I wasn’t sure what to expect.

The day of the Party, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the volunteers who showed up early to eagerly help with set-up.  As the event began, I was again impressed with the enthusiasm of the volunteers who showed up to help with the day. I was able to meet a lot of new people and make some connections outside of just where I sat on a Sunday morning.

It was so nice to see so many people who live in the nearby communities take part in the fun at the Towne Party.  At one point in the afternoon, I had two little girls come up to me and ask me if I worked at the church – I told them I was a volunteer and asked how I could help them.  One of the girls showed me her handful of change and asked, ‘How much does the food cost here?’ Much to her delight I let her know that it was all ‘FREE” – both girls were so excited!

I am so happy that I was able to have a small part in the Towne Party – it’s nice to be able help out and give back. But I feel like I received so much from attending the Towne Party –the unexpected benefit of volunteering!
